exit 54. avoid the area if you can. *there are several downed trees reported across henderson and rutherford counties this morning. d-o-t is clearing these out of the roadways now. be careful if you are heading out in either area. *also happening on the roads... a water main break is causing problems on mcdowell street. the road is closed in both directions near choctaw street. i'm jaclyn deaugustino 3 3 3 other parts of the state are also getting hit with problems on the roads because of winter weather. there were a lot of wrecks south of hickory. firefighters went to work to help one driver after a spin out on icy overpasses. catawba county also had a lot of problems as the freezing rain changed over to sleet... coating secondary roads. 3 3 3 3 happening today... jury selection begins in a transylvania county murder

charles o'shields is accused of shooting and killing toby mathis in 20-11 inside the "dollar general" in rosman. at the time, mathis was charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of o'shields' son. jurors will report to court this morning at 10:30. 3 the suspect in an asheville murder case made his first court appearance. investigators believe james norton killed tina kessinger in the parking lot of asheville realty group on friday then stole her car. her body was found outside the realty office. norton is charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. he was given a court appointed attorney and is scheduled to be back in court march seventh. the judge 3 3 we have a developing story out of haywood county. it involves allegations of sexual misconduct at the detention center. the s-b-i confirms it began an investigation last month, after allegations that former detention officer jonathon jones engaged in inappropriate behavior with a female inmate. the s-b-i hopes to complete its investigation by the end of the month and

district attorney. the d-a's office will determine whether charges will be filed. 3 3 the clock is ticking for state lawmakers. they have until this friday to redraw the maps for two congressional districts. a panel of federal judges set that deadline after ruling the current redistricting maps are unfair. lawmakers hope the u-s supreme court will push that deadline back, but they need to be ready in case the high court does not. yesterday legislators held a statewide teleconference to get public input about 60 people showed up at u-n-c-a to make comments. 3 we need to create a non partisan redistricting commission along the lines of ones that are already functioning successfully in some of our sisters states some were critical that the statewide public hearing was held via teleconference. there were audio problems and the conference lasted more than five hours. 3 3 3 donald trump plans to stay in south carolina through saturday's primary. that was the word from the republican presidential candidate during a campaign last night in
